Getting started
Go from a validated install to one completed task without adding remote complexity first.
Before you install
Start on the computer that contains the project and provider installation you want to use. Choose only a validated installer from the releases page.
- A supported Codex or Claude Code installation must already be usable for your operating-system user.
- Provider authentication and any provider subscription or API usage are separate from CodeTether.
- The project folder must already exist and remain available on this execution machine.
Install the right component
Use Desktop for the full workspace and local execution. Install a Node only on a separate Mac or Linux machine that should accept remote work.
Check the coding agent
- Open Setup or Doctor and review the discovered provider installation.
- Complete provider login in the provider’s own supported flow if CodeTether reports authentication is required.
- Confirm installation readiness separately from the most recent execution-health observation.
Add a project
- Choose Add Project from the workspace.
- Select an existing folder in Desktop, or enter an absolute path in browser mode.
- Review the canonical project location and availability reported by CodeTether.
Send the first task
- Create a conversation and explicitly choose its machine, project, and provider.
- Write the task, review the selected context, and start the turn.
- Follow agent output, tools, files, diffs, and attention in the conversation workspace.
CodeTether never treats a lost network response as permission to replay provider work automatically. When execution ownership is uncertain, inspect the conversation before starting a fresh task.
